Drop, Cover, Hold New Zealand Shakeout

Room three have been learning about what to, do when an earthquake happens.

What I enjoyed was recording the video and, making the funny part in the video.
What my group and I have to do next time is that we should have made the video easier to understand.

Crazy Cyclones

Crazy Cyclones

What are Cyclones? Room three
have been researching about
natural disasters such as
cyclones and other natural disasters.

How it happens:
For cyclones to form they
need, a warm still ocean to
form with a temperature over
26.5 degrees.
Cold air will warm up and rise
into the sky. The stages of a
cyclone are origin, mature
and dissipation.

Parts of a cyclone:
Warm, rising air which helps
form the shape of the cyclone.
Rain bands, which collect rain
so when, the cyclone hits land
it starts raining. The eye, is the
calmest part of a cyclone. Eye
wall, the eye wall is made with
really strong winds and the wind
of the, eye wall is as strong as steel.
The outflow, is what helps the cyclone spin.

Maori Connection:
The Maori connection is that
Tāwhirimātea is the god of wind
and storms.

Example of how it impacts New Zealand:
Cyclone bola hit New Zealand in 1988.
Most of the damage of cyclone bola
was covered up by trees. There was
over a meter of rain in three days in
march. When cyclone bola was
happening there were lots of
shallow landslides. Lots of people
were injured in cyclone bola.

How to get through it:
Make sure you have an emergency
getaway kit in your house. Check
your getaway kit to make sure you
have everything, in case you have
to move somewhere else in a hurry.
Close anything you have open that
leads to the outdoors such as doors
and windows.

Other interesting facts or trivia:
The eye of a cyclone can be up
to one hundred kilometers wide.
A cyclone can be measured to
one thousand kilometers from the eye.

Conclusion:
Cyclones are a dangerous
disaster and you should
always be wary of when
a cyclone, might hit the
land! Cyclones could die
out in a few days but some
could last longer so you have
to, remember to be ready to
survive through one.

Living By The Rules

  1. Veer will go over the rules at the start and explain the way the cards work.
  2. Sharelle has made a mistake and has put a normal card on top of a pick up card.
  3. Veer will go over the rules again to help Sharelle fix her mistake.
I enjoyed making the video for the slide show to help other people learn how to live by the rules.
I found it hard to stay calm while recording and trying no to laugh through out the video.
My next steps are to make sure everyone can see what we a placing down

The Apple

Author: Ben Brown
Illustrator: Tracy Duncan
Genre: Sophisticated Picture Book
Main Characters: Blossom,
Granny Smith, Hunter, Goat,
Crone, Crow, Wizard, Golden Apple,
Dragon, Knight, Giant.
Plot: Blossom gave her apple
to the wolf and it continued to be pasted
onto the other characters in the story until
it got back to Blossom.
Rate:
Reasons Why I Picked
That Rating: Because the story was
adventurous and had lots of humor in it.
The golden apple traveled a long way until it came back
to blossom
(who was the one who owns
the apple and picked it)
Setting: Dark Dangerous Forest
Age Rating: 8 to 11 year old kids.
And boys and girls would love to read this
book, but I also think The younger kids
would like someone to read it to them!

My Zero Waste Exposition Writing

Is Awapuni School Taking Zero Waste Seriously?

I Strongly Believe that Awapuni School takes Zero waste seriously!
Awapuni students take care of our school’s environment.
Firstly, Awapuni school has a Green Team! The Green Team takes
their time to help our school’s
environment by, planting new trees for us which help
reduce carbon dioxide in our Greenhouse Gas layer, to Slow
down global warming. For example We all have a carbon
footprint and the green team is reducing how big our carbon
footprints are! When the Green Team is doing planting  that they
are being the community kind! The Green team also takes our mandarin
skins and apple cores to the compost for the worms! Cows make half
of our carbon in our greenhouse gas layer.
Secondly, Awapuni School did wearable art! As evidence, wearable art is were you recycle and reuse old plastic bottles and cardboard boxes and more! With the wearable art we brought in Boxes, fabric and plastic bags! Awapuni School also did research about zero waste. Zero waste is were we reduce waste that goes into our landfills and also into our seas! So we make sure we take our rubbish home and don’t leave it lying around our school!Lastly, Awapuni School made a letter to the council!
We made a letter to the council that was a exposition letter and
it was stating what we want to do, to the plastic bags! In fact, the
Council has made a call to action!
In Conclusion Zero waste should be taken seriously!
So we should make sure we plant, more trees.,
So that we can reduce our carbon footprint!

All About Me

I was learning to make a google drawing about myself. I enjoyed drawing the pictures to
describe the words. I put words that describe about me and I put words that I like to hear
like "Great Job!" Nothing in this activity challenged me.
